Summertown

Summertown, Tennessee

The following is from "A Look at the Past" by Sandy Curtis:

"By 1900, trainloads of visitors from as far away as Nashville and Florence were arriving in Summertown daily. The hillsides were dotted with Summer cottages of the more affluent families from Nashville and Maury county."

"Although Summertown was hailed as a place to "get away from it all", it was by no means isolated from the rest of the world. Early residents enjoyed such things as postal service, telephones and newspapers when these were considered luxuries."

Over the years Summertown returned to being a quiet community, that is, until a few years ago. It seems that Summertown has been rediscovered as a great place to live with residential developments and custom homes popping up. Small businesses are opening to meet the community's expanding needs.
